UK logistics operator Eddie Stobart has announced an upgrade to its fleet for the firm's online fulfilment division.

A total of 50 new specialist box trailers have been added to the company's fleet, with the vehicles purchased from manufacturer SDC.

Specially-designed to transport online purchases across the UK with greater efficiency and with increased safety, the trailers will focus on the fulfilment of time-critical express trunking services between some of the UK's largest sorting depots.

Each of the trailers has been fitted with special storage areas for loose parcels and roller cages, as well as the latest load-securing technologies; all ensuring goods are able to be delivered with maximum efficiency and with the least likelihood of damage on arrival.

Online fulfilment sector director at Eddie Stobart Neil Rowbotham said: "This is a significant investment and demonstrates our commitment to this fast-growing sector.

"The new trailers, in addition to our high-specification tautliners, will bring greater efficiencies and flexibility to our business by facilitating the fast and secure movement of loose parcels."

He added that the new trailers will ensure the company has maximum flexibility in the years ahead, with the aim of protecting the firm's "competitive pricing structure", while simultaneously supporting the firm's broader deliveries network.

Eddie Stobart manages a fleet of more than 2,500 trucks and transport vehicles. It is one of the largest privately-owned transport and distribution companies in England today.
