Ford has celebrated the milestone of delivering more than 10,000 Transit Custom models to buyers in the first year of the vehicle’s availability across the UK.

Launched in January, the Transit Custom has proven extremely popular with commercial vehicle operators cross the country and critics alike, being named International Van of the Year 2013.

Designed and engineered at the Ford Dunton Technical Centre in Essex, the model has helped the manufacturer maintain its position as the UK’s most popular commercial vehicle provider, with almost 50 per cent of sales to date being carried out by artisan businesses across the country.

It is powered by the company’s 2.2-litre Duratorq diesel engine and provides “class-leading” load-carry capacity, as well as a number of innovative features available to Custom buyers, such as a load-through hatch in the model’s bulkhead.

Andy Barratt, Ford of Britain sales director, commented: “Ford is in a strong position, offering customers more choice by selling previous generation Transit alongside new Transit Custom, helping to maintain our firm grip on the UK’s medium van segment.”
