Vehicle manufacturer Volkswagen (VW) has announced an extremely positive sales performance for the year to date, delivering more than seven million models to buyers to the end of September.

In total, the company reported a 4.8 per cent increase in its deliveries for the first nine months of the year in comparison to the same period of 2012 to 7.03 million vehicles.

Furthermore, September itself witnessed a seven per cent rise in deliveries to 856,900 units.

VW group board member for sales Christian Klingler commented: "Thanks to a broad-based, international positioning and a convincing product range we were able to respond well to the continuing uncertainty in the eurozone and the challenging overall market."

He added the company's "attractive" model range has been integral in seducing more customers to buy VW cars, with the North American and Asia-Pacific markets two areas where sales have been extremely positive this year.
