The Environment Agency (EA) has published data highlighting the ongoing concerted efforts of its fleets to reduce their carbon emissions.

According to the organisation's latest data, the agency has been able to reduce the average output of CO2 for its entire fleet by 11 per cent to just 115g/km per vehicle – this covers the agency's 3,442 vehicles.

In addition, average new car emissions now stand at 106g/km – a reduction of 15g/km of CO2 over the last year.

Dale Eynon, the EA's head of fleet operations, commented: "We encourage the majority of our employees to look at whether they can use public transport or phone conferencing first before making a car journey."

He added the annual reduction in emissions for the agency is the equivalent of taking up to 500 vehicles off the road. However, staff are not content with these savings and are always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to reduce carbon output.
