New figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have highlighted September 2014 as being the best ever month for commercial vehicle registration in the UK for Ford.
Last month witnessed the company achieve a 28.3 per cent market share in the commercial vehicle sector, outstripping every other manufacturer and securing the firm's position as the UK's most popular commercial vehicle maker.
In total, Ford's commercial vehicle range secured 15,503 sales during the month, with the Transit nameplate – Transit, Transit Custom, Transit Connect and Transit Courier – taking the lion's share of this figure at 13,959.
The Transit Custom alone sold 7,177 units during the month, placing it in the top ten most popular models bought in September in the UK.
Overall, this means the Transit became the second most-popular vehicle to be purchased in the UK last month, behind only Ford's other major seller, the Fiesta.
In the year to date, Ford has garnered a 23.8 per cent overall market share for its commercial vehicle range and has sold 65,378 units. This compares to a market share of 22.8 per cent for the firm for the same period in 2013 and places the manufacturer on track for another year of solid growth.
This year has so far seen the Ford range bolstered by the launch of new models, such as the Ford Transit Connect and the all-new Ford Transit Courier.
Responding to the results, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director Mark Ovenden said: "In the high-volume September sales month, Ford beat the overall UK market volume increase and maintained its strong sales momentum to secure record sales.
"Our extended Ford Transit family, which now has full availability since the arrival of the Ford Transit Courier in July, is selling at record levels."
Further figures from the SMMT showed that in the year to date, the overall commercial vehicle market in the UK has grown by 12.3 per cent, with 274,210 vehicles sold.
