Vehicle manufacturer BMW has announced it has dispatched the first 40 vehicles that will make up part of its fleet offering for the upcoming London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

BMW is the official automotive partner to the Games and as such, it will be providing transport options for VIPs, dignitaries and competitors this summer.

"The Games fleet will include our class-leading efficient diesels, hybrids, electric vehicles and even bicycles. We are extremely proud for our cars to be involved in the London 2012 Games," commented Tim Abbott, managing director of BMW UK.

Among the vehicles being used in the Games fleet are the manufacturer's 520d EfficientDynamics and the 320d EfficientDynamics models – two of its most environmentally-friendly fleet offerings.

Earlier this month, the company announced a record full-year report for its performance in 2011.

The firm revealed its profit before taxes rose to €7.38 billion (£6.15 billion), while earnings before interest and tax for its dedicated automotive segment grew to €7.47 billion.
