Road safety charity Brake has issued a warning to firms to ensure all their staff are aware of the dangers of taking to the roads in adverse weather.
The organisation has highlighted its ABC acronym for fleet managers; standing for Avoid driving if possible in bad weather, Be prepared by planning journeys in advance and Careful, cautious driving is required – be prepared to slow down and look out for other road users and hazards at all times.
Laura Woods, research and information officer at Brake, commented: "Driving can be risky even in good conditions and in bad weather it can become very dangerous. I urge fleet managers to remind their drivers of the risks particularly at this time of year."
She added a free publication has been provided by the organisation's partner the Fleet Safety Forum that addresses a range of issues surrounding staying safe when out on the winter roads.
