The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) has welcomed the publication of data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) highlighting an increase in automotive sector output across the UK in 2013.

According to the SMMT, car production across the UK grew by 3.1 per cent over the last 12 months to stand at 1.5 million vehicles for the year.

This is the highest volume of deliveries reported since 2007 and the SMMT believes this increase in output is a key driver of economic recovery for the nation as a whole at present.

In response, BVRLA chief executive Gerry Keaney commented: "This growth would not be possible without fleet and business sales."

He added the organisation's members are responsible for 80 per cent of all fleet vehicle purchases in the UK and this demand for new cars is helping the sector push to predicted record levels of production by 2017.
