Van pricing experts CAP have warned new emissions guidelines could cause difficulties for operators.

The introduction of new Euro 5 rules for van operators relies partly on the uptake of new diesel particulate filters in vehicles and the organisation has warned this could actually be damaging to many vehicles.

Van users in urban areas typically rely on short, low-speed deliveries and this can lead to a clogging of these devices.

John Watts of CAP warned: "A typical example could be a city-based self-employed used van owner who travels less than ten miles to site from home and stays all day."

As a result, the costly nature of replacing these filters means used van prices could fall in the future, as many operators will have to factor in the cost of replacing these devices on a more regular basis.

The news follows the publication of research by TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk, which showed that 78 per cent of vehicle owners across the UK would consider retrofitting their car or van to improve its fuel efficiency and lower their emissions.
