Research published by the AA has revealed the most popular colour for car buyers investing in a new model has changed over the last two years, with a significant rise in the number of people going black.
Last assessed in 2011, the AA's State of the Nation car report shows 23 per cent of all new vehicles being purchased with '63 number, which has been available from the start of this month, are coloured black – up nine per cent on the 2011 data.
It was the largest swing in consumer preferences listed in the research, while the only colour more popular than black was silver, with 29 per cent of respondents claiming they would purchase a vehicle of this hue – up four per cent.
Edmund King, AA president, added: "We expect to see more 'back to black' cars hitting the road as the new '63 plate registrations roll out."
