Individuals who are new to caravanning have been urged to stay safe this summer after a report has highlighted a considerable growth in popularity for the pastime this year.
According to a study by Nissan, one in five caravan enthusiasts only took up the pastime in the last six months, meaning a host of inexperienced towers will be taking to the roads this summer.
Nissan 4×4 manager Rachael Gregory commented: "Choosing the right towing vehicle is fundamental to an enjoyable and safe towing experience. The most common error made by towers is in hitching overbearing loads. This is both illegal and dangerous. "
Earlier this year, a safe caravanning guide was published by vehicle manufacturer Chevrolet, in which it set out some of the basic issues most caravanners will face.
It advised individuals to practice turning, stopping and reversing their vehicle with the caravan attached in order for them to get used to the process.
