The new Consumer Codes Approval Scheme (CCAS) has been launched by the UK motor industry's self-regulatory body Motor Codes.

"It is testament to Motor Codes' high standards of practice that it is the UK's largest code to receive government backing," commented Mike Baunton, interim chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

CCAS relates to government-backed codes of practice for UK car servicing and repairs, with approximately 7,550 manufacturer main dealers and independent garages already signed up to the initiative.

It aims to ensure vehicle owners receive the best levels of service when having their cars maintained, ensuring UK motorists get a fair deal from providers.

The news follows the recent announcement from the roads minister Stephen Hammond that the Driving Standards Agency and Vehicle Operator Services Agency will officially join together next year.

It will bring driver testing and standards services across the UK into a single organisation.
