Chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne has been called on by non-profit organisation ACFO to address the present high costs of low-emission fleet vehicles in his upcoming Budget.
Set to be announced on March 21st, the Budget is the perfect opportunity for the chancellor to send a strong message to industry regarding the push for more low-emission vehicles in company fleets across the UK.
However, under the present system, ACFO has revealed low emission drivers are being penalised through lower tax thresholds than those drivers of higher emission vehicles, and this is a situation the body wants the chancellor to change.
"We believe this is unfair and perhaps it is time for the government to consider other tax threshold adjustments rather than simply tightening the screw at the lower end on a seemingly annual basis," commented ACFO chairman Julie Jenner.
Her comments follow those of John Watts of CAP, who recently argued new Euro 5 rules for van operators could result in poorer value for firms, as the new particulate filters being called for can wear out more quickly than previous products.
