Roads minister Mike Penning has announced the Department for Transport is set to scrap MOTs for classic cars across the UK later this year.

From November 18th, classic car owners across the country will no longer have to send their vehicles for an annual MOT in a bid to reduce red tape and costs for enthusiasts of this type of vehicle.

The new rules will be applicable to classic vehicles manufactured prior to 1960.

Mr Penning commented: "Owners of classic vehicles will still be legally required to ensure that they are safe and in a proper condition to be on the road, but scrapping the MOT test for these vehicles will save motorists money."

Earlier this month, vehicle manufacturer Lexus was shown to have the most reliable vehicles in the UK, with first MOT pass rates of 88.2 per cent for its models manufactured in 2008. This was compared to a manufacturer average of 80 per cent.
