Allianz Global Assistance has advised UK motorists on travelling in treacherous conditions, as this year's winter is forecast to be colder and wetter than average.
The company stated drivers should carry out essential maintenance on their car to stay safe on the road, while purchasing a set of winter tyres could be highly beneficial in terms of maintaining proper grip and handling.
Regular checks should also be carried out on oil levels, de-icer and anti-freeze in order to keep a car roadworthy.
Lee Taylor, chief sales officer at Allianz, commented: "Driving conditions in Britain during the winter months can be both difficult and hazardous. Yet, with a little regular care, it's possible to minimise the risk of a breakdown."
Earlier this month, Johnson Controls Batteries advised motorists of the importance of checking the state of a vehicle's battery before the cold weather sets in.
A spokesperson for the firm stated the winter can be a difficult time for drivers, especially if their car battery is old and quickly loses its charge.
