Local authorities across the country are set to receive a proportion of a new fund announced in the chancellor's Budget this week.
Aimed at tackling the issues of potholes on the nation's highways, the government is investing an additional £200 million into tackling the more than 3.3 million potholes that are currently known about across England.
The cash will be made available for use in 2014 and 2015 and comes on top of emergency funding of £140 million provided by the Department for Transport to repair roads damaged in the recent spate of poor weather and flooding.
Transport minister Patrick McLoughlin welcomed the development and stated: "Damage to roads causes misery for drivers and local communities and the severe weather over the last few months has made the problem worse."
He added this extra money will now make a real difference to millions of road users and will ensure motorists are able to carry out safer, smoother journeys.
