The Department for Transport has announced it is to invest £7.2 million into repairs for roads across Cumbria that were damaged in the floods of 2009.
Funds will be used to deliver improvements to drainage in the area, as well as making repairs to highway slopes, culverts, footways and bridges.
Main Street in Cockermouth was one of the worst affected areas by the flooding, with the money also being put towards restoring the road to a more suitable condition. This will help to bring back much-needed traffic and footfall to the town centre.
Transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin said: "Reliable local highways are crucial to communities and provide important links for people to work, shops, services, families and friends."
He added this latest investment will be the final instalment of funding to restore the region's carriageways to their former condition, ensuring drivers can carry out journeys safely.
