Mazda's CX-5 has been honoured with this year's Green Award from Total 4×4 magazine.

Boasting low emissions of just 119 g/km of CO2, the CX-5 performed extremely well in the publication's continuous testing programme which was carried out throughout 2012, ensuring it stood out from the crowd in terms of sustainability and its limited impact on the environment.

Total 4×4 editor Alan Kidd said: "There are vehicles out there whose fuel efficiency is achieved at the expense of interior space or drivability, and they can come across as one-trick ponies as a result."

However, he noted that the CX-5 does not fall into this category, as it is a spacious and comfortable vehicle to drive, making it an ideal model for daily use, while also being strong on safety, practicality and value.

Earlier this month, the CX-5 was also given best buy status by motoring publication What Car?. The model was praised for its excellent fuel economy and low emissions.
