Mazda is hoping that its new CX-5 compact crossover SUV will increase the brands share of the UK fleet market.

The car uses unique SKYACTIV fuel-shipping technology, which aims to provide enhanced efficiency and cut down on emissions.

Tony Leigh, head of car fleet services at PricewaterhouseCoopers, was impressed with the Mazda CX-5, stating that it has style and can compete financially.

"It is entering a sector of the market where there are a lot of competitors. A low CO2 figure is important and, with the price of fuel, economy is crucial, so it all comes down to cost," he added.

Mazda hopes that the SKYACTIV technology, which will be rolled out across new Mazda models in the future, will change the automotive landscape with its three main attributes of improving economy, safety and performance.

Last month, Euro NCAP gave top safety ratings in all four categories to the Mazda CX-5.
