The UK's automotive sector has been bolstered by increasing demand for new vehicles over recent months, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has revealed.
SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes commented: "More than 15 brands build 50-plus models of car across the UK, with volume and niche offerings providing a wealth of choice for our home and export markets."
According to the organisation's statistics for October, UK car output rose 17.4 per cent to 160,854 vehicles – the largest monthly increase in 2013 so far – while production volumes for the year to date stand at more than 1.28 million units, an upturn of 5.4 per cent on the same period in 2012.
Manufacturing for the domestic market was the biggest winner though, as the SMMT's figures revealed an annual 52.4 per cent rise in purchases among UK buyers in October.
Mr Hawes added that with European demand also showing signs of recovery, the outlook appears positive for further production growth over the coming months.
