The Environment Agency (EA) has invested in a number of new vehicles to bolster its fleet.

A total of 31 Citroen Berlingo HDi 90 manual L1 850 Enterprise vans have been purchased by the government department, with the organisation aiming to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of its vehicles over the coming years.

"Not only meeting, but exceeding our green targets is at the forefront in all our vehicle selection processes – and the Berlingo Enterprise has all the green credentials required by the EA," commented Graham Patrickson, EA fleet operations manager.

The new vehicles will be allocated to EA specialists carrying out flood defence and maintenance work across the UK, with each of the models to be retrofitted with additional high tensile steel racking.

Meanwhile, engineering, construction and property firm Eric Wright Group earlier this month announced the purchase of a new Vauxhall Ampera, as the company looks to examine the benefits of a shift towards a greener fleet management policy in the coming years.
