Sir Alex Ferguson has received an early Christmas present this year, after he was handed the keys to a new Chevrolet Volt by the vehicle manufacturer earlier this month.

The Manchester United manager and football legend took charge of his new car last week as part of the ongoing partnership between the car company and the club.

Chevrolet is currently Manchester United's Official Automotive Partner and is also set to become their shirt sponsor for the 2014/2015 season.

Sir Alex commented: "A friend of mine drove one in the states and kept going on and on about it, so when I had the opportunity, I said 'yeah, I'm going to try it because it's the car of the future'."

He added that in his opinion, the vehicle is "absolutely phenomenal".

The Volt is powered by a unique electric drive unit coupled with a range-extending petrol engine. It offers an electric-only range of up to 50 miles and with the added petrol power is able to travel for up to 300 miles between fuel stops.
