Range Rover has announced its new Evoque convertible concept model is to be debuted at the upcoming Geneva International Motor Show.

Featuring the same bold design elements as the standard vehicle, the new concept model incorporates a foldable tailgate, retractable aluminium roof and Roll Over Protection System, while maintaining its structural rigidity and handling, despite having much of the upper part of its chassis removed.

John Edwards, Land Rover global brand director, said: "The Evoque convertible concept is a new twist to the Evoque story and explores the potential to further extend the nameplate's appeal by giving existing customers more choice."

However, plans are not yet in motion to put the vehicle into full production, as the company stated the model is simply an exercise in engineering and design for now.

Last week, the standard Range Rover Evoque was voted 2012 Car of the Year by readers of the MSN Cars website. The vehicle was named the winner ahead of popular rivals, including the Aston Martin Virage and McLaren MP4-12C.
