Ford has increased its share of the European medium van market to its highest level in over a decade during the first nine months of 2013.

From January to the end of September, Ford recorded total medium van sales of 106,800 units for its Transit and Transit Custom models, with the company's overall European share in this sector rising by 1.4 percentage points from the same period last year to 14.3 per cent.

Now standing at its highest level since 2002, the marque's medium van segment continues to attract plenty of attention from fleet buyers across the continent, with the Transit is celebrating its 48th year of being the UK's most popular commercial vehicle in 2013.

Meanwhile, the Transit Custom recently celebrated being named International Van of the Year 2013.

Kevin Griffin, commercial vehicle marketing and sales director at Ford of Europe, commented: "Transit Custom is a great looking van which is hard-working, economical to own and drives just like a car. It started life in award-winning style and this success has now continued into the Ford showrooms."
