The price of fuel remains the biggest concern for motorists in the UK, new research from British Car Auctions (BCA) has revealed.

According to a survey carried out by the motoring organisation this month, the top five issues facing drivers across the UK at present are fuel, road tax costs, insurance prices, vehicle maintenance and parking.

"It's clear from our survey that motorists are continuing to feel the financial pinch, as the costs of running a car continue to rise," commented Tim Naylor, editor of the BCA Used Car Market Report.

The research also showed a continuing trend for drivers to cut back on the amount of journeys they are making due to these rising costs, with 29 per cent of respondents saying they now only make 'essential' trips – school runs, food shopping, going to work, etc.

Figures from the AA also recently showed that the amount of petrol and diesel being purchased across the country has considerably fallen over the last five years, from 37.672 billion litres in 2007 to 34.160 billion last year.
