More than 100 hauliers working for logistics firm Wincanton are striking for a week from next Tuesday (24th January) in a dispute over pay and conditions.
As a result there could be a fuel shortage in some parts of the country affected by the strikes, but motorists are being urged not to try and panic buy in the lead up.
The Unite union said the walkouts could hit depots at Immingham in Lincolnshire, Kingsbury in Warwickshire and Stock-on-Tees in County Durham.
Unite national officer Matt Draper said the steady erosion of pay and conditions of drivers in the industry left people with no choice but to take action.
Kate Gibbs of the Road Haulage Association added: "But we would strongly urge people not to go panic buying because that will really make any problems much worse."
Last week it was claimed that diesel prices could hit record new highs by the end of January due to rising wholesale prices.
