Motorists across the UK are lacking a sense of goodwill towards other road users at this time of year, new research from Halfords Autocentres has suggested.

According to a study carried out by the automotive supplier, 23 per cent of respondents to a recent survey said they feel ill-mannered motorists and poor driving behaviour – lane hogging, not using indicators and failing to allow other drivers to emerge at junctions – are all more likely during the colder months.

Overall, one-fifth (20 per cent) stated they felt aggressive and impatient drivers are also more commonplace in winter, with behaviour like tailgating, speeding and the use of horns or lights to intimidate other road users all increasingly seen.

Rory Carlin of Halfords Autocentres commented: "We know that winter road conditions are a cause for concern amongst motorists but they also feel that ill-mannered and aggressive behaviour by other drivers is making things worse."
