The finalists for next year's Green Car of the Year Award from Green Car Journal have been announced.
Based on their achievements in raising the bar in terms of environmental performance, both through fuel efficiency and lower emissions, the five finalists for next year's honour are the Audi A6 TDI, BMW 328d, Honda Accord, Mazda3 and Toyota Corolla.
Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal, commented: "The diversity of this field of finalists illustrates not only that 'green' has gone mainstream, but also that there is no single approach to achieving ever higher levels of fuel efficiency and environmental performance."
He added the list of finalists provide something for everyone and include clean diesel, high efficiency gasoline, and hybrid/plug-in hybrid-powered models.
The final decision will be made by an expert jury of car aficionados, journalists, environmental organisation representatives and members of the automotive profession, with the winner to be announced at next year's Los Angeles Auto Show.
