Drivers taking to the roads this festive season have been advised on how best to tackle wet conditions, as this winter is predicted to see heavy rainfall in many parts of the country.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has stated people must slow down when faced with adverse weather and they should also avoid using cruise control, as this reduces their ability to react quickly when meeting a hazard in the road.
IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger commented: "There's nothing quite like getting to your car in the rain. It's a haven from the elements. But be cautious, especially after prolonged dry spells – rain on a dry road is dangerously slippery."
Earlier this week, Mr Rodger also advised on how best to prepare for any long stints behind the wheel this Christmas. He claimed carrying out checks on tyres and other essentials before departing can help Brits to have safer journeys.
