The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has issued advice to anyone planning to take a trip abroad this year and who will be taking their car with them.

Recommendations put forward by the organisation to help drivers have a stress-free getaway include planning ahead and researching what laws will impact them when moving from country to country.

IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger added: "Even if you're planning to merely pass through a country, you'll need to be aware of their regulations for touring drivers. Plan and prepare for your trip abroad and get up to speed with the local rules of the road."

Individuals should also take regular breaks every two hours to combat fatigue.

Earlier this month, the IAM also issued advice to older drivers, stating they should have regular eye tests and be aware that their reaction times could increase. In addition, they should be vigilant against bad habits creeping into their driving over time.
