The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has offered advice to drivers who undertake the school run on a regular basis.
As part of the organisation's ongoing Drive & Survive campaign to boost road safety, IAM head of training Simon Elstow has advised those who carry out the school run to always be aware that their vehicle poses a danger to children.
He noted that drivers should never stop on the yellow zig-zags outside schools and motorists should cut their speed to 20 mph or less.
In addition, Mr Elstow said: "The school run brings with it a 20 per cent growth in rush hour traffic. A little preparation can go a long way to making the school run easier, so take the extra time and plan ahead."
Earlier this month, the IAM published research highlighting the continued mistrust of the motivations behind speed cameras by many UK drivers.
A poll of UK motorists showed 45 per cent believe the main function of speed cameras is not to improve road safety, but to raise revenues for local authorities and the government.
