Caravan owners across the UK have been advised to plan their journeys in advance before taking to the roads.
Tim Shallcross, head of policy at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, said towing a caravan can be more stressful for drivers than operating a normal car and therefore, individuals should plan rest breaks and simple routes to reach their destination in order to make travelling as stress-free as possible.
He commented: "It is far too often the case that only one partner feels capable of driving the car and towing. I would encourage both of you to jump in the driving seat and share the driving."
According to a recent study by Nissan, 18 per cent of Brits are planning a camping or caravanning holiday in 2012, while 20 per cent of towers have only taken up the pastime in the last six months.
The results also revealed that 38 per cent of caravan owners have had no formal training on how to tow.
