The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has issued a response to the publication of the latest DVLA figures for UK drivers that have accumulated the most points on their licence over the last year.
According to the government department, a man from Southend-on-Sea was able to accrue 30 points after being caught speeding ten times, while an unnamed individual from Pevensey, East Sussex, built up 24 points for speeding on six occasions in just two weeks from September 30th to October 13th 2012.
Meanwhile, a man from Warrington was caught driving without insurance six times over a two-week period between February 20th and March 2nd, accruing 36 points in all.
IAM chief executive Simon Best commented: "DVLA and the Courts Service are upgrading their computer systems to ensure that offence information is shared more efficiently, but this is not due to be in place until October."
Once this process is complete, it is hoped these astronomical points tallies for offenders will become a thing of the past, with drivers taken off the roads as soon as they reach 12 points.
