With the annual V Festival set to take place in just over two weeks' time, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has offered advice to festivalgoers on getting to the venue safely.

The annual musical event will be taking place at Hylands Park and Weston Park in Chelmsford and Staffordshire respectively, with this year's headlining acts to include The Kings of Leon and Beyonce.

Motorists heading to each of the sites have been advised to plan their journeys in advance due to expected high levels of congestion. Scheduling in regular rest stops is also good advice for anyone travelling long distances to get to this year's showcase.

In addition, they should avoid over-packing their vehicle, as extra weight equals additional fuel consumption, while large items in the rear of a vehicle can obstruct the driver's view.

IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger said: "Prepare yourself and your vehicle, and then you'll be able to do what you're going for – enjoy your festival weekender."
