Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced it has saved more than 5.2 million tonnes of CO2 over the past five years, highlighting its commitment to a greener automotive sector.

In addition, the firm announced it is launching its 50th green initiative in 2012 to provide safe drinking water in Kenya.

"Since 2007, we have been investing in carbon reduction projects across the world and we are pleased to announce support for our 50th carbon dioxide offset project: 'LifeStraw'," commented Mike Wright, JLR executive director.

He added that the company takes its environmental responsibilities extremely seriously and is intent on increasing its commitment to offset carbon production in the coming years, setting a target of ten million tonnes of CO2 by 2014.

Earlier this month, Jaguar announced the unveiling of its new F-Type model at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in September. The vehicle will mark the brand's return to the popular sports car sector with its new two-seater design.
