The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has given its backing to a new government initiative that aims to plug a future skills gap within the UK car making industry.
See Inside Manufacturing will look to encourage upwards of 100,000 young people to enter the field of automotive design and manufacture over the coming years, with events being run in partnership with a number of technical colleges to provide students with factory tours, insights into skills and the many opportunities that arise through a career in design.
SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes commented: "Important initiatives like See Inside Manufacturing provide the social investment needed to inspire the next generation to take on careers in the automotive industry."
He added the sector will continue to invest heavily in careers for those with a passion for automotive design, as the UK looks to stay ahead of its competitors in terms of delivering the best quality vehicles.
