Fleet managers across the UK have been advised that despite the latest scrapping of fuel duty rises by the government, a commitment to low-carbon vehicles is still the best way for firms to manage vehicle costs in the long-term.
Chancellor George Osborne backtracked on his decision to implement a 3p per litre rise in fuel duty earlier this week, citing the impact the additional taxes would have on businesses and families across the UK as his inspiration for doing so.
Business Green reports Julie Jenner of fleet organisation ACFO welcomed the news, but noted companies must still be looking to reduce their dependence on petrol vehicles in order to make savings.
She told the publication: "The focus of all fleets is still going to be on fuel efficiency and lower CO2. All good fleet operators must be pursuing a policy of fuel-efficient vehicles."
She added that this move is not a cancellation but a deferment and the rise will still impact businesses in the future and they therefore need to be prepared.
