Dundee City Council is to take charge of a new fleet of commercial vehicles from Volkswagen (VW).

The vehicle manufacturer will now be delivering six new Caddy C20 Trendline models to bolster the local authority's fleet, which is set to include 50 Caddy variants once this latest deal has been completed.

All of the vehicles are and will be used by the council's construction and plumbing maintenance teams, with the excellent build quality and impressive load capacity of the Caddy range proving extremely valuable to staff when carrying out their duties.

Furthermore, the manufacturer's BlueMotion technology – which comes as standard on all Caddy models – helps to ensure the authority remains in adherence to strict guidelines regarding fleet emissions and its environmental impact.

The extensive standard specification for the vehicles – including cruise control, rear parking sensors, and electrically heated and adjustable wing mirrors – also served to make the decision to purchase more VW vehicles that much easier for the local authority.

Fraser Crichton at Dundee City Council said: "It is vitally important that we invest in the most cost effective fleet we can. We rely on our fleet of vehicles every day and the Caddy delivers excellent durability and reliability, which ensures the whole life cost is kept to a minimum.

"The Caddy is compact, offers a good payload capacity and works well in the city centre. All of which made it an easy decision to increase the Volkswagen offering in our fleet."

He added VW also offers a three-year warranty on its Caddy models and this too was a significant incentive in the decision to take on more vehicles from the manufacturer, while the "strong" aftersales performance of the firm also means that in the event of any breakdown, the council can be assured of a like-for-like replacement policy.
