Performance vehicle developer McLaren is set to showcase UK manufacturing excellence in the automotive sector at the Science Museum this summer.

As part of the fanfare surrounding the London 2012 Olympic Games, the company has been invited to highlight the significant contribution the UK has made to driving forward innovation in automotive design with an exhibition of some of its most famous cars.

A McLaren MP4-12C sports car and a Specialized S-Works + McLaren Venge motorcycle will be part of the showcase, as well as a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 car.

McLaren group executive chairman Ron Dennis said: "At McLaren we believe passionately in the importance of making things. Not only innovating in design, but also steering those innovations through to final premium-quality assembly with our own hands."

The event is running at the Science Museum in London throughout the summer.

One of the most successful Formula 1 teams ever, McLaren celebrated 700 races in the sport at last year's Korean Grand Prix.
