New research published by the Vehicle & Operator Services Agency (VOSA) has shown the majority of MOT failures for vehicles each year could be easily avoided.
According to the organisation, 8.1 million MOT failures were recorded in 2012. However, a significant proportion of these cases were failed due to "easy-to-spot errors" that could have been remedied prior to their annual check.
As such, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has published its new Minute Or Two guidance, which outlines ten key areas where car owners should carry out examinations of their vehicle before it is put in for its annual MOT.
Checks include easy-to-spot issues like worn tyres, blown bulbs, problems with windscreen wipers and low fluid levels – all issues that cause many vehicles to fail their MOT the first time round.
Available at the SMMT website, the Minute Or Two checklist could help millions of car owners save on multiple tests for their vehicle and also ensure they are roadworthy throughout the year.
