The changing attitudes to drink-driving in the UK have been highlighted in a new survey carried out by the AA.
As part of the latest AA/Populus poll of over 22,000 drivers, the results showed how a significant reduction in drink-driving has taken place over the past 30 years. Its data showed that 1,550 drink-related accidents were reported in 1982, but this figure has fallen to just 280 this year.
"It really is not worth dying for the sake of a drink. Drinking and driving do not mix. Our key message is if you are going to drink, don't drive and if you are going to drive, don't drink," commented AA president Edmund King.
Earlier this month, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents backed calls for the reduction of the UK's drink-drive limit.
It is hoped that a cut from 80mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood to just 50 mg will help save countless lives and be a more serious deterrent to this dangerous and irresponsible behaviour.
