The Department for Transport (DfT) has announced a raft of new measures aimed at boosting the UK economy through the development of land near major A roads and motorways across the country.
Roads minister Stephen Hammond commented: "I believe that making planning decisions easier and quicker will lead to local economic growth and the creation of jobs, leading to greater prosperity."
The DfT has outlined a range of new measures to support economic growth, including easing restrictions on access roads and junctions on to motorways, simplifying mandatory requirements for service areas and roadside facilities, as well as devolving decision making on service area spacing to local authorities.
It is hoped this shift in focus will help to ensure communities have more appropriate roads networks in their area, while at the same time reducing the government's financial and regulatory burden on the development of new routes and their associated facilities.
