Vehicle manufacturer Nissan has celebrated the first anniversary of the launch of the Leaf – the company's first 100 per cent electric vehicle.

Fleet managers across the UK have flocked to the model since its launch in March 2011, with a number of high-profile individuals also embracing the concept of the vehicle, including Smooth Radio DJ Mark Goodier.

He commented: "I've found the instant (and silent) acceleration makes the car easy and relaxing to drive. For me, there's been no downside to driving a Leaf."

The Leaf is capable of a top speed of 90 mph and features a number of technical innovations including regenerative braking, which helps to charge the car's onboard batteries every time the driver applies the brakes.

It is powered by a synchronous 80 kW, 280 Nm AC motor with laminated lithium-ion battery, capable of a cruising range of approximately 109 miles on a single charge.
