The Peugeot 308 has been awarded the prestigious title of 2014 Car of the Year ahead of the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.

Awarded by journalists from more than 22 countries and open to new models being released this year, the 308 is the fourth of the manufacturer's models to have taken this crown, following the 307 (2002), the 405 (1988) and the 504 (1969).

Launched in the UK in January, the new 308 was a judges' favourite, with the new model range including four petrol and five diesel variants, delivering CO2 emissions as low as 82g/km.

Furthermore, the range is being bolstered this month by the launch of a new body choice for buyers – the 308 SW.

Maxime Picat, director general of automobiles for Peugeot, said: "With the new Peugeot 308, we were convinced that we had achieved a leap in concept, technology and quality and which would soon allow it a place on the podium for the category in Europe."
