Fleet operators across the UK may in the future face some confusion when taking on vehicles from the used car market due to a rise in the number of model variations being offered by manufacturers.

Research compiled by CAP Automotive has revealed a 15 per cent increase in average model ranges over the last three years, while equipment and 'extras' packages have risen by 187 per cent over the same period.

This means finding complementary models across the used car segment could be more difficult for fleet operators, especially as the organisation's study highlighted there are now 369,257 possible combinations of vehicle options available in today's market for buyers.

CAP operations director Adrian Rushmore commented: "When you consider that there are now more than 65,000 possible combinations of options on a Mini alone, it's clear that expert assistance for trade and consumers alike will be more important in the coming years."
