New figures published by British Car Auctions (BCA) have highlighted a record level of used car values in the UK for December.

Values rose by 1.1 per cent last month from November to £7,573 across the board, while average mileage (57,067 miles) and typical age (60.69 months) at the point of sale also marginally increased.

Simon Henstock, BCA's UK operations director, commented: "December continued the long term trend of rising average values in the wholesale markets and a new record was established, beating the previous highpoint which was seen exactly 12 months earlier in December 2012."

Moreover, looking to the year ahead, he added there is little sign at present that levels of demand across the used car segment will diminish; meaning values are likely to remain high in 2014, especially due to a shortage of stock that has been the case for several months.
