Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles (Volkswagen CV) has announced 2014 was a record year for the company, with a considerable upturn in new vehicle registrations for the year.
The firm saw an overall 8.4 per cent rise in vehicle sales during the last 12 months in comparison to the preceding year, with 40,624 light commercial vehicles sold.
In addition, 3,673 passenger carriers and camper vans were bought by consumers in 2014 (nine per cent up on the previous year), with the company moving up to second in the UK's light commercial vehicles sector with a total market share of 12.4 per cent.
Carl zu Dohna, director of Volkswagen CV, commented: "Our vans are proving more popular than ever, not just because of their quality and comfort, but also because of our strong residuals and the service support provided from our dedicated Van Centre network."
Standout results for the last 12 months included a 38.4 per cent increase in registrations for the company's Crafter light commercial vehicle model, while the firm's Amarok model saw its popularity grow year-on-year by 20.4 per cent.
In addition, the multi-award-winning Transporter model accounted for almost 19,000 of the firm's total registrations in 2014 compared with 16,663 in 2013 – up by 11.6 per cent – and the Caddy continued to prove popular among UK buyers with more than 12,000 sales. The Caravelle was also a strong performer for the year as a whole.
"These are strong results and everyone involved in the brand deserves a huge thank you," Mr zu Dohna concluded. "We will carry this strong performance and phenomenal momentum into 2015, as we embark on a truly exciting year."
