The Highways Agency (HA) has announced the successful renewal of its vehicle recovery contract for motorists involved in collisions or who break down on the nation's motorways and major A roads.
An initial three-year contract has been signed by the HA with recovery specialist FMG, with the option for a further four-year extension of the deal in the future.
It will provide statutory vehicle removal services in instances where cars have been abandoned, have broken down and are blocking traffic and in cases where vehicles are damaged in road traffic accidents and need to be towed from the scene.
Set to come into effect from October 1st, the agreement will cover all areas where roads are patrolled by HA traffic officers and will also cover measures to keep roads clear during periods of adverse weather or during events on carriageways managed by the HA, such as roadworks.
It aims to reduce unnecessary delays for all road users, with the contract valued at approximately £34.5 million over its seven-year course.
