The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been named winner of this year's Professional Driver's Chauffeur Car of the Year award.

Mark Bursa, editor of motoring publication Professional Driver and chairman of the judging panel, said the honour is a testament to the vehicle's outstanding quality and longevity, as despite the fact it is nearing the end of its lifecycle, it still outperformed a number of new entrants into the market in 2012.

He commented: "Mercedes-Benz made major improvements to its chauffeur programme this year, with the S-Class now matching its competitors pound-for-pound, so it boils down to taste."

Mr Bursa added that there is plenty of kudos remaining in the chauffeur industry for the Mercedes-Benz brand.

The news follows a further positive announcement by the vehicle manufacturer this week, with Mercedes-Benz highlighting its best ever October performance for registrations.

A 27.2 and 10.4 per cent rise was respectively recorded for the firm's private and business sales last month.
