The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has scooped an unprecedented four titles at the annual Vehicle Dynamics International Awards.

It was an emphatic showing for the German manufacturer's luxury model, with the vehicle and the team behind it taking home trophies in the categories of Car of the Year, Innovation of the Year, Dynamicist of the Year and Dynamics Team of the Year.

Dr Hermann Storp, winner of the Dynamicist of the Year title, commented: "We are very proud of this recognition – I'm not sure any single brand has won so many awards in this category and it's down to the hard work and dedication of my team for making it possible.

"When we were developing it, the S-Class aimed to set new benchmarks and be the best car we could possibly make – and dynamics play a big part in this."

The S-Class remains the top choice among UK buyers in the luxury car market segment and this award is a reflection of the high esteem both judges and members of the public have for this car.

Indeed, judging for the awards was made up by a panel of 27 individuals from 19 countries, all of whom were independent automotive journalists.

At present, the S-Class is available in a diverse portfolio of variants, including four, six, eight and 12-cylinder engines, three hybrid models, a choice of two wheel bases and a range of features that can be included or excluded based on the consumer's wishes.

Furthermore, the range has now also been bolstered by the launch of the new S 300 BlueTEC Hybrid model, which made its way into UK showrooms this month.

It delivers 61.4 mpg on the combined diesel/electric cycle and emits just 120 g/km of CO2 – making it both highly fuel efficient and environmentally friendly, attributes that are increasingly important to the modern buyer.
